Shining light on a renewable resource

Member cooperatives throughout central and southern Indiana are now gathering energy from ten 1-megawatt solar arrays.  Collectively, the 10 solar sites provide approximately 20 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy annually. Steve Fortwendel has been employed at the co-op for nearly 17 years. He was hired Oct. 1, 2001. He graduated from the Hoosier Energy Apprentice Training and Safety (HEATS) program to become a journeyman lineman in October 2005 and earned an associate’s degree through the lineworker technology degree program. Generating power from the wind

Hoosier Energy purchases energy generated from the wind at farms in Indiana, Iowa and Illinois.  The turbine generators capture the kinetic energy of the wind and convert it into electricity.
