Members enjoy day dedicated to them
Around 1,300 LaGrange County REMC members and their families came together on June 9 to elect two directors to the cooperative board, as well as spend the day eating, learning and laughing together.
Registered members re-elected incumbent director Jeff Hampshire to represent District 3 and elected Clifford Hibbs to lead District 4. Hibbs was appointed to the board in January after the death of Director Mark Bontrager in November 2017.
The meeting began with a flag ceremony, the Pledge of Allegiance and a recognition of the veterans in attendance before CEO Mark Leu addressed the teamwork that makes the co-op successful today and in the future.
“You have a high-performing, dedicated board of directors and employees from this community that come each day to work as a team to provide you with top tier value and service,” Leu said. “This also means that we are well prepared to continue to deal with the new challenges that we will face in the future. Energy technology continues to make headlines. We are committed to working together for you to deliver on the cooperative promise of safe, affordable and reliable electric service.”
Attendees viewed displays and talked to REMC employees about various programs offered through the cooperative. The REMC’s power supplier, Wabash Valley Power Association, showcased information about Co-op Solar, and Indiana Electric Cooperatives shared about the co-op’s monthly magazine, Electric Consumer. The Builders Association of Northeast Indiana and our energy advisor, Jake Taylor, provided information about building for efficiency and comfort.
LaGrange County Convention & Visitors Bureau educated visitors on its programs, and Parkview LaGrange Hospital and its EMS team brought health information and offered blood pressure checks for members.
Children, and hopefully future REMC members, enjoyed learning more about exotic animals through Indiana Wild’s onsite program, playing in bounce houses and having their faces painted by clowns.
Crowds were also entertained with music from Smooth Edge 2, and cash and other prizes were given away throughout the day.
