October 2011 That Reminds Me
You’re important
by Emily Schilling
Editor
You may have noticed this month’s printed version of Electric Consumer arrived a little bit differently in your mailbox.
Because of postal regulations which would substantially increase the cost of mailing our publication, we had to make a few subtle “tweaks.” This month’s issue is folded and tabbed. Also, the location of your address label has moved and the newspaper is no longer stapled. These minor changes will keep the cost of delivering and producing Electric Consumer as low as possible.
All of us on the Electric Consumer staff are committed to providing you a relevant, informative and entertaining newspaper — while at the same time being extremely budget-conscious. We know good value is important to you, and it’s important to us.
We also are interested in meeting your needs in the best way possible. To that end, we are in the midst of a comprehensive study to determine new ways to better serve our readership — and perhaps attract new readers to Electric Consumer.
A project like this takes lots of time, and challenges us to embrace new ideas. We are still in the exploratory stage of this “relaunch” project, so we can’t announce definite plans at this point. But stay tuned in the months to come for more information about the evolution of Electric Consumer!
A portion of the data for our “relaunch” study comes directly from the readership survey which we announced in our August issue. Thanks to those who took the time to provide us with vital information about who you are and what you think of us. Your feedback is critical for us making content, design and delivery decisions as we move forward.
If you did not participate in the survey, feel free to e-mail us at ec@indremcs.org if you have any comments about the publication you’d like to share with us.
There are many means for sharing information nowadays. We believe in the importance of the printed media but understand it is only one way of communicating. We are also planning updates to our website in the future to make it easier to navigate.
Any change we make — whether it be folding and tabbing the publication or redesigning it — will be done with you in mind. That’s because you’re important to us. You ARE the reason we publish Electric Consumer.
