Everyone — including kids — can make a difference in making the world cleaner and greener. Earth Day is April 22, but you can reduce, reuse and recyle every day.

Here are some easy things you and your family can do to be more eco-friendly.
• Turn off the light if nobody is in the room and turn off the TV if no one is watching it.
• Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth.
• Opt to take showers instead of baths. Showers use less water than baths.
• Encourage your family to buy products that are not over-packaged.
• Recycle. Sort through your family’s recyclables and ready them for pickup. If there’s no recycling collection in your area, help your family look for a place to take the recyclables.
• Encourage your family to compost. Collect food scraps and garden waste, and add them to a compost pile in the yard. Compost can be used in the garden to help grow plants and other crops.
• Donate your old clothing, toys and shoes to a thrift store so others can use them. While at the thrift store, you may see items that you can use. Recycling and reusing items is a great way to keep them from landfills. You can also donate old towels, blankets and comforters to animal shelters to be used as bedding for animals.
